The Deputy Governor apologised to Akeredolu over the recent political crisis in Ondo State.
Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the embattled Deputy Governor of Ondo State, has tendered a public apology to his principal, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, over the ongoing political crisis in the state.
Aiyedatiwa tendered the apology at a media briefing in Akure, the state capital, on Thursday, October 26, 2023.
The Deputy Governor reiterated his unwavering loyalty to Akeredolu while expressing regrets that negative reports attracted by the recent crisis must have caused embarrassment to his principal in the last few months.
He also pledged his commitment to the development of the state as he denied any involvement in recent protests calling for the governor’s resignation.
“It is in reference to the above that I hereby tender my unreserved apologies to Mr Governor and the good people of Ondo state, and I assure that, together, we will both complete this journey with honour, divine guidance and in good health by the grace of God,” Aiyedatiwa said.
Recently, the state House of Assembly moved to impeach Aiyedatiwa following friction between him and Akeredolu. The lawmakers accused the Deputy Governor of alleged misconduct, but the state Chief Justice refused to commence impeachment proceedings against him, citing a court injection.
The lawmakers have since soft-pedalled on the matter and declared their openness to the intervention of national leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for a political solution to the impeachment move.
Meanwhile, Aiyedatiwa appreciated his principal for beckoning the state assembly members to embrace the “political solution” as suggested by the party leadership.
The Deputy Governor added that there was a need to also calm all nerves to restore peace and tranquillity to the Sunshine State.
“I am profoundly grateful to Mr. Governor for his intervention and role in persuading the distinguished members of the Ondo State House of Assembly to embrace the political solution offered by our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the face of an impeachment move against me.
“Our beloved state has witnessed a series of events triggered by the health challenges faced by Mr. Governor, which gave rise to misunderstandings, misconceptions, assumptions, and insinuations, and exploited by political contenders preparing for the upcoming 2024 gubernatorial election.
“The recent impeachment attempt by the House of Assembly and the ensuing reactions have further created division and chaos, with my loyalty to Mr. Governor being questioned,” he added.
