Veteran lawmaker Oluwole Oke has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ending a long-standing political relationship with the party he has represented for over two decades.
Oke, who currently chairs the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts and represents the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency of Osun State, announced his departure in a letter addressed to the PDP Ward 7 Chairman in Obokun Local Government Area.
“I wish to formally notify you that I am resigning my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, with immediate effect,” Oke stated in the letter dated Wednesday, April 23.
The decision, he said, followed “consultation and engagement with political associates, family and friends.”

What next for Oluwole Oke?
Though Oke did not disclose his next political move, his exit is expected to have significant implications for party dynamics in Osun State and possibly at the national level.
The six-term lawmaker is widely regarded as one of the most experienced legislators in the current National Assembly, and his movements are likely to draw interest across party lines.
“It is my wish that you accept my resignation in good faith,” he added in his letter, which was also copied to the PDP’s national, state, and local government chairmen.

Oke’s resignation adds to the growing list of defections and internal tensions facing the PDP ahead of the next election cycle.
His departure could signal deeper unrest within the party, particularly in key battleground states like Osun. As of press time, the PDP has not issued an official response to Oke’s resignation.
