The Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, has firmly dismissed allegations circulating in sections of the media that student loan funds were diverted at the University of Abuja, stating that no verified evidence supports the claims.

In a statement issued on Friday by Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, Director of Strategic Communications, the fund said it had taken note of the reports but stressed that, as of now, there is no substantiated proof that the University of Abuja misappropriated, diverted, or unlawfully withheld NELFUND disbursements.

NELFUND maintained that its operations are guided by a structured disbursement and reconciliation framework anchored on its statutory mandate.

According to the agency, funds are released strictly through established institutional channels, with compliance and accountability mechanisms embedded in the process to safeguard transparency.

The fund explained that where issues arise, particularly concerning delays in crediting student accounts or reconciling institutional records, it engages directly with the affected institution to resolve such matters administratively and in line with due process.

“It is important to emphasize that allegations reported in the media do not amount to established findings,” the statement noted, adding that NELFUND relies solely on verified documentation, formal reconciliation procedures, and audit mechanisms in addressing any concerns related to its disbursement system.

Reaffirming its commitment to Nigerian students, the agency said it remains focused on protecting the interests of eligible beneficiaries and ensuring that all loan disbursements are applied strictly in accordance with the law.

NELFUND further pledged continued collaboration with partner institutions nationwide to uphold transparency, accountability and the integrity of the student loan programme.
