JUST IN: FG launches youth confab portal

The Federal Government officially launched the digital portal for the much-anticipated Nigeria Youth Conference, also known as the National Youth Confab, on Monday, June 16, to deepen youth involvement in national policy and development.

Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, who announced the launch, described the initiative as a “generational turning point” and not just another government event.

“This is more than just a conference. It is a national movement, a call to action. We are handing over the mic to young Nigerians to shape the future they will inherit,” Olawande said during the unveiling.

The digital portal will enable participants to register, contribute ideas, and receive real-time updates throughout the conference.

The Confab is expected to be youth-led, inclusive, and non-partisan, according to the minister.

The theme of the conference, “Next Gen Nigeria: Crafting Solutions, Owning the Future,” reflects the government’s intention to position young people at the heart of policymaking and nation-building.

President Bola Tinubu first announced plans for the 30-day Youth Confab during his Independence Day speech in October 2024, calling it a key platform for listening to the voices of the country’s youth.

In March 2025, the president inaugurated a 44-member Planning Committee at the State House in Abuja to coordinate the event.

With Nigeria’s population dominated by young people under 35, the initiative is seen as a critical effort to engage a key demographic in shaping national development priorities.

“The portal is now live,” Olawande added, urging young Nigerians to “seize this opportunity to make their voices heard and take ownership of their country’s direction.”

The date for the commencement of the Confab is expected to be announced soon.
