Gas explosion rocked Fomex filling station along Edibe Edibe Road in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State on Saturday morning, destroying property worth millions of naira.
The incident occurred around 9:40 am, with eyewitnesses describing the blast as so powerful that it shook nearby buildings, initially mistaken for a bomb detonation.
No fatalities were recorded as of the time of filing this report.
Residents expressed concern over the delayed response from both federal and state fire services, even one hour after the explosion. However, the University of Calabar Fire Service was contacted and expected to intervene.
The Commissioner of Police Rashid Agegbua has visited the scene for on-the-spot assessment.
