A Nigerian-born candidate is hoping to bring a fresh approach to local politics in Wolverhampton with a focus on community-led development and support for the most vulnerable.
Prince Adetoyese Anifalaje, a Green Party candidate for St Peter’s ward told newsmen who engaged him in virtual exclusive interview he will prioritise the needs of local people if elected as councillor in the May 7 local elections.
With over 30 years of experience in leadership roles, Mr Anifalaje said his community-focused approach would ensure residents have a say in decisions affecting their lives.
“We’re not just about making promises, we’re about delivering for the people,” he said. “The Green Party is about fairness, accountability, and putting the needs of local people first.”
Mr Anifalaje, who has lived in Wolverhampton for decades, criticised other parties for failing to connect with grassroots communities and ignoring the concerns of local residents.
He highlighted the Green Party’s commitment to tackling climate change, which he said disproportionately affects vulnerable communities, and praised the party’s record of engaging with local people and delivering practical solutions.
On international issues, Mr Anifalaje defended collaboration between nations to tackle shared challenges, citing Nigeria’s fight against insurgency as an example of where cooperation can be effective.
The councillor hopeful also urged Nigerian students considering studying in the UK to research their options thoroughly and seek out scholarship opportunities to support their studies.
Mr Anifalaje is urging residents of St Peter’s ward to register to vote and support his bid to become their Green Party councillor.
“I’m committed to listening to local people and working tirelessly to make a real difference in our community,” he said.
